A SharePoint Portal Server Default.aspx Web page appears incorrectly after you remove HTML leading white space in FrontPage 2003 (826801)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Office FrontPage 2003
  • Microsoft Office SharePoint Portal Server 2003

SYMPTOMS

When you open a Microsoft Office SharePoint Portal Server 2003 home page (Default.aspx) in Microsoft Office FrontPage 2003, and then optimize the HTML to remove leading whitespace, the Actions link bar area of the Default.aspx page is removed, and you receive one of the following error messages instead:
Error - Object reference not set to an instance of an object.
-or-
Error rendering Web Part
If you preview the Web page in a Web browser, it appears correctly.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs if you add or remove whitespace from the SPSWC:Toolbar control.

WORKAROUND

To work around this behavior, update the display. To do this, click Refresh on the View menu. When you update the display, FrontPage obtains the Web Part contents from the Web server and the Web part again appears correctly.
