You cannot search for content or you may receive unexpected results when you search for content in the portal site in SharePoint Portal Server 2003 (826797)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Office SharePoint Portal Server 2003
SYMPTOMSYou may find that Microsoft Office SharePoint Portal Server
2003 (SPS) does not index SPS content in the portal site correctly. As a
result, users either cannot search for SPS content or may receive unexpected
results when they try to search for content in the portal site. No error or
warning messages are logged to the application event log or to the SharePoint
Portal Server log files.CAUSEThis problem may occur if the URL of the portal site in the
Portal Web Address box of the Configure Connection to
Portal Site page is changed from "/" (without the quotation marks) to
a different URL. In this situation, SharePoint Portal Server does not index SPS
content (but indexes Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services content) and does
not display or log an error or warning message to provide information about the
issue or how to troubleshoot the issue.WORKAROUNDTo work around this problem, make sure that the URL of the
portal site is specified correctly in the Portal Web Address
box of the Configure Connection to Portal Site page. To do so,
follow these steps:
- In your Web browser, type the following URL in the
Address box, where ServerName is
the name of the server, and then press ENTER:
http://ServerName/_layouts/1033/portal.aspx - On the Configure Connection to Portal Site
page, specify the correct URL of the portal site in the Portal Web
Address box--for example, type "/" (without the quotation
marks).
- In the Portal Name box, specify a friendly
name for the portal site, and then click OK.
