SYMPTOMS

Microsoft MSN Messenger cannot communicate with MSN Messenger and MSN Hotmail services.

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

MORE INFORMATION

  • This update upgrades the MSN Messenger to use MSN Messenger Protocol version 8. Earlier versions of the protocol will be deprecated in Microsoft RTC server products and services during the year 2003.
  • To acquire the correct certificate authentication for protocol version 8, the date on the device must be current when you run MSN Messenger.
  • If proxy settings are required to connect to the Internet, the proxy settings for Microsoft Windows Messenger must also be set.
