The RemoteStatus property forces items to be downloaded in Outlook 2003 (826490)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Office Outlook 2003

SYMPTOMS

When you use a custom program to determine if an item has been downloaded in Outlook 2003, the program may force the item to be downloaded.

CAUSE

This problem may occur if you use the RemoteStatus property in the Microsoft Outlook object model. The problem occurs because of a limitation in the RemoteStatus property. The RemoteStatus property requires access to a property of the e-mail message and forces the item to be downloaded.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, use the MarkForDownload property instead of the RemoteStatus property when you determine whether an item has been fully downloaded.

The following Microsoft Outlook automation code is an example of how to use the MarkForDownload property:
Sub CheckStatus(Item As Outlook.RemoteItem)

    If Item.MarkForDownload = olMarkedForDownload Then
        ' Do Something
    ElseIf Item.MarkForDownload = olMarkedForCopy Then
        ' Do Something else
    End If

End Sub

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
