FIX: An Invalid Handle Exception Occurs When You Use the ReceiveBy or ReceiveByCorrelationID Methods with Multiple Threads (826297)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Message Queuing 3.0
  • Microsoft .NET Framework 1.0

SYMPTOMS

When you use the ReceiveBy method or the ReceiveByCorrelationID method with multiple threads against the same message queue, an invalid handle exception may occur. You may receive the following error message:
An invalid handle was passed to the function. (Error code: 0xc00e0007)

CAUSE

The ReceiveBy method and the ReceiveByCorrelationID method use the MessageEnumerator class, but they do not destroy the MessageEnumerator object that was created after they return.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, do not use the ReceiveBy method and the ReceiveByCorrelationID method. To implement a MessageEnumerator object, run the following code:
try
{
	while (messagesEnumerator.MoveNext(timespan))
	{
		Message message = (Message) messagesEnumerator.Current;

		if (String.Compare(message.CorrelationId, correlationID,true, System.Globalization.CultureInfo.InvariantCulture) == 0)
		{
			ResponseMsg = messagesEnumerator.RemoveCurrent();
		}
	}
}
catch (MessageQueueException mqe)
{
	.
}

finally
{
	if (messagesEnumerator != null)
		messagesEnumerator.Close();
}
