SYMPTOMS
When you press the CTRL+ALT+DEL keyboard shortcut to bring up the logon dialog box on a Microsoft Windows XP-based computer, the customized text that you added to the following registry subkey does not appear:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\Welcome
Warning If you use Registry Editor incorrectly, you may cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that you can solve problems that result from using Registry Editor incorrectly. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.
For example, if you add the following registry information on a Windows XP-based computer, "Hello" does not appear in the logon dialog box:
Subkey: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WindowsNT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon
Value Name: Welcome
Value Data: Hello
Value Type: REG_SZ
If you add this same registry information on a Microsoft Windows 2000-based computer, "Hello" will appear in the logon dialog box.
