Passwords for kiosk shows are not supported in PowerPoint Viewer 2003 (825943)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Office PowerPoint 2003
SYMPTOMSWhen you use the Microsoft Office PowerPoint Viewer 2003 to
run a presentation as a slide show, you do not have the option to run the slide
show in kiosk mode or to set a password.CAUSEThis problem occurs because the PowerPoint Viewer 2003 does
not include an option to specify a password that you must have to exit from, or
to switch context away from a running slide show.
In earlier versions
of the PowerPoint Viewer this feature also forced the Viewer to display the
slide show in kiosk mode disabling all keyboard input and restricted mouse
interaction to objects that the slide designer has designated for slide show
interaction. However, you can configure your presentation to run in kiosk mode
directly from PowerPoint 2003. RESOLUTIONTo resolve this problem, set your presentation to run in
kiosk mode. Note If you set your presentation to run in kiosk mode during a slide
show, every slide must have either slide timings or you must add navigation
buttons to each slide. Slide timings automatically advance one slide to the
next. To add navigation buttons to each slide, put Action Buttons on each
slide, or modify the Action Settings for existing drawing
objects, setting them for one of the following actions:
- Next slide
- Previous
- End show
This does not prevent people who are viewing your presentation
from pressing the ESC key and stopping the show. For more information about using Action
Settings, click Microsoft PowerPoint Help on the
Help menu, type Action Settings in the
Search for box in the Assistance pane, and then click
Start searching to view the topic.
To set your presentation to run in kiosk mode,
follow these steps.
- On the Slide Show menu, click Set
Up Show.
- Click Browsed at a kiosk
(full-screen).
- Click Using timings, if
present.
- Click OK.
WORKAROUNDTo work around this problem, you can use the PowerPoint
Viewer 97 to view your slide show. However, the PowerPoint Viewer 97 does not
support any of the animation and transition improvements made since PowerPoint
97 was released. You can turn off the advanced features in
PowerPoint 2003 to see what the effects would be to your presentation if you
ran it through the PowerPoint Viewer 97. To do so, follow these steps:
- On the Tools menu, click
Options.
- Click the Edit tab.
- In the Disable new features area, click to
select the New animation effects check box.
