FIX: Font Linking and Skip Tables Remain Unchanged After the AddFontResource Function is Called (825898)


The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Windows CE .NET 4.1

SYMPTOMS

When a font resource is added programmatically by means of the AddFontResource function, the font linking information and the skip table information is not updated to include the new font.

CAUSE

Graphics, Windowing and Event Subsystem (GWES) builds the font linking and skip tables only when the system is restarted. Therefore, GWES use only those fonts that are built in to the platform.

RESOLUTION

Prerequisites

This fix is supported only when all previously issued fixes for this product have also been installed.

Restart Requirement

After you install this update, you must perform a clean build of the whole platform:
  1. On the Build menu, click Clean.
  2. On the Build menu, click Build Platform.

Hotfix Replacement Information

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

MORE INFORMATION

This update changes GWES so that it rebuilds the font linking and the skip tables after any successful AddFontResource function call. As a result, font resources that are added dynamically will behave like system font resources.

Font linking and skip tables are most frequently used with Far East localizations of Microsoft Windows CE.
