All Graphics in a Pack and Go Publication Are Marked As "Original Is Modified" (825777)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Office Publisher 2003
  • Microsoft Office Publisher 2003 with Digital Image Pro

SYMPTOMS

In Publisher 2003 when you unpack a Pack and Go Publisher file, open the publication, and then start Graphics Manager, all the pictures in the publication are incorrectly listed as Original is modified. None of the linked graphics have been modified and this is only incorrect status information that is provided by Graphics Manager. At print time, Publisher also updates all linked graphics.

CAUSE

When you run Pack and Go with the Create links for embedded graphics check box selected, Pack and Go will save the embedded graphics as files, and then Pack and Go creates links for each of the embedded graphics that are used in the publication. This creates a new version of the graphics.

If you run Pack and Go with the Include linked graphics check box selected, Pack and Go will include any linked graphics that are used in the publication by copying them to a temporary folder before including it in the Pack and Go file.

By default the Include linked graphics check box is selected when you create a Pack and Go file by using Take to Another Computer on the File menu.

By default the Include linked graphics and Create links for embedded graphics check boxes are both selected when you create a Pack and Go file by using Take to a Commercial Printing Service on the File menu.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, use the Graphics Manager and manually update the links for all the graphics that are used in the publication. To do so, follow these steps.

Note When you print the publication, Publisher will update all the linked graphics in the publication.
  1. On the Tools menu, click Graphics Manager.
  2. Right-click a linked graphic, and then click Update this Link.

Repeat this step for each of the linked graphics in the publication.

STATUS
