A red X character appears when you paste a linked image in Office 2003 (825772)

SYMPTOMSWhen you copy an image that is linked to a file from Word 2003 and then paste the image in a different Office program, such as Microsoft Office Excel 2003 or Microsoft Office PowerPoint 2003, the image is not displayed. A red X character is displayed where you paste the image.CAUSEThis problem occurs when all the following conditions are true: - You insert an image in a Word 2003 document and that image is linked to a file. For example, the image file is linked to the My Pictures folder.
- You save the document, reopen it, and then update the image. For example, you move the image to the front of the document text.
- You copy the image, and then paste it in a different Office program.
WORKAROUNDTo work around this problem, turn off the Update links on save option in Word 2003. To do so, follow these steps: - Start Word 2003.
- On the Tools menu, click Options.
- Click the General tab, and then click Web Options.
- Click the Files tab, and then click to clear the Update links on save check box.
- Click OK two times.
