SUMMARY

This article discusses how to change the amount of random access memory (RAM) that is allocated to a single virtual machine in Microsoft Virtual PC for Mac version 5 and later.

MORE INFORMATION

To change the PC Memory setting in Virtual PC for Mac, follow these steps:
  1. On the Window menu, click Virtual PC List.
  2. Click the appropriate virtual machine.
  3. Click Settings.
  4. Click PC Memory.
  5. Move the Total RAM in PC slider to the right to increase the memory that is allocated to the virtual machine or move the Total RAM in PC slider to the left to decrease the allocated memory.
  6. Click OK or click Restart.
Note If you are running Virtual PC for Mac under Mac OS 9, do not use the Get Info option to increase the memory that is allocated to Virtual PC. The memory that is used to run the virtual machine is dynamically allocated from the available memory that is on the Macintosh computer, not from the memory that is allocated to the Virtual PC for Mac program.

Note Microsoft recommends that you do not leave less than 128 megabytes (MB) of RAM for Mac OS when you adjust the settings of your virtual machine. If you leave less RAM for Mac OS than Mac OS requires, you may experience severe performance and stability problems.
