Error: "This Application Requires SVGA Display Resolution or Higher" When You Install SPSS 9.0 or Later on Virtual PC for Mac (825486)

SYMPTOMS

When you try to install SPSS 9 or later on a Virtual PC for Mac virtual machine, you may receive the following error message:
This application requires SVGA display resolution or higher.
When you click OK, you receive the following error message:
Error- your system does not meet the minimal requirements to install SPSS. Setup aborting.
When you click OK, the SPSS Setup program quits.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because the display resolution of the virtual machine is 640 pixels by 480 pixels. SPSS requires a display resolution of at least 800 pixels by 600 pixels.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, set the virtual machine to have a display resolution of at least 800 pixels by 600 pixels. To do so, follow these steps:
  1. Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
  2. Double-click Display.
  3. Click the Settings tab.
  4. Under Screen resolution, move the slider to 600 x 800 or 768 x 1024, and then click OK.
  5. When the Display Properties window appears, click OK.
