You Cannot Increase the Size of the Drive Images That Are Included with Virtual PC 6.0 and 6.1 So That They Are Larger than 15 Gigabytes (825399)



The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Virtual PC for Mac version 6.1
  • Connectix Virtual PC for Mac version 6.0

SYMPTOMS

When you try to use the Virtual Disk Assistant to increase the size of the hard disk images that come with Connectix Virtual PC for Mac 6.0 and with Microsoft Virtual PC for Mac 6.1 so that they are larger than 15 gigabytes (GB), you cannot.

CAUSE

The hard disk images that are included with Virtual PC 6.0 and 6.1 have a maximum expandable size of 15 GB.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, use the Virtual Disk Assistant to create a new hard disk image that is larger than 15 GB. To do so, follow these steps:
  1. Start Virtual PC.
  2. On the Window menu, click Virtual Disk Assistant.
  3. Click Create empty floppy or hard disk image, and then click the right arrow.
  4. Click Create hard disk image, and then click the right arrow.
  5. Click Select Drive Location, and then locate the folder where you want to create the hard disk image.
  6. In the Save As box, type the name that you want to use for the hard disk image, click Select, and then click the right arrow.
  7. Click Windows XP in the New Disk Operating System list, and then click the right arrow.
  8. Click to select the Advanced Options check box.
  9. Click Dynamically expanding drive image or Fixed-size drive image.
  10. Select the capacity that you want for the new hard disk image, click Create Drive, and then click Done.
