The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Virtual PC for Mac version 6.1
  • Connectix Virtual PC for Mac version 6.0

SYMPTOMS

When you copy a one or more files from the Mac operating system to the Guest Microsoft Windows XP operating system by means of shared folders, the copy operation is not successful. Windows XP abruptly stops responding and then quits.

CAUSE

This problem occurs when the files that you copy are more than 1.2 gigabytes (GB) in total.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, do one of the following:
  • Keep the size of the files that you copy to the shared folder less than 1.2 GB.
  • Drag the file or the files onto the Guest Windows XP window.
  • Mount the virtual machine hard disk image on the Mac operating system, and then copy the files. To mount a drive, follow these steps:
    1. Shut down the Guest Windows XP operating system.
    2. Select the virtual machine, and then click Settings
    3. Click Drive 1, and then click Mount Drive Now.

Now the hard disk image is mounted on the Mac desktop.
    4. Copy files to the hard disk image as you would copy files to any hard disk.
    5. When you finish copying the files, eject the disk image.
