File names remain in the open list of the Getting Started task pane even after you delete the files in Visio 2003 (825366)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Office Visio Professional 2003
  • Microsoft Office Visio Standard 2003

SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Office Visio 2003, you may find that the Open list of the Getting Started task pane displays the names of recently-used files even after the files are deleted from the local or remote hard disk where they were stored. When you click the name of the file in the Open list, you receive one of the following error messages:
An error (1502) occurred during the action Open File.

File not found.
An error (1503) occurred during the action Open File.

File not found.
The file names may remain in the Open list of the Getting Started task pane even after you quit and restart Visio 2003 or after you reset the most recently-used file list.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because the names of files that you recently used are not automatically removed from the Open list of the Getting Started task pane if the files are deleted. As a result, when you click the file name in the Open list, you receive one of the error messages described earlier in the "Symptoms" section.

If you deleted the file, but you did not delete the folder that contains the file, you receive the "(1502)" error message described earlier in the "Symptoms" section when you click the name of the file in the Open list. If you deleted the file and you also deleted the folder that contains the file, you receive the "(1503)" error message that is described in the "Symptoms" section when you click the name of the file in the Open list.

This problem may also occur if the Visio 2003 file is opened from an e-mail client like Microsoft Outlook, and then you quit the e-mail client.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
