After you mount a drive image on the Macintosh computer, and you copy files to the drive image, there may be one or more files on the disk image that have a file name that contains a period, an underscore, and the name of an existing file. The following is an example, where FileName is the name of another existing file:

._FileName

This file is created by the Macintosh file system for any file that had a resource fork. These files are typically not required in Microsoft Windows.
