Virtual PC 6.x Does Not Detect Virtual PC 5.0 Preferences and Virtual Machines When You Start It the First Time After You Upgrade (825359)
The information in this article applies to:
- Connectix Virtual PC for Mac version 5.0
- Connectix Virtual PC for Mac version 6.0
- Microsoft Virtual PC for Mac version 6.1
SYMPTOMSWhen you upgrade Connectix Virtual PC for Mac Version 5.0, and then start Virtual
PC Version 6.0 or 6.1 for the first time, Virtual PC may not detect your preferences or your virtual machines.CAUSEThis behavior may occur if both the following conditions are
true:
- Virtual PC version 5.0 unexpectedly quit, or is still
running.
- You start Virtual PC version 6.0 for the first time without
first restarting the Macintosh or successfully shutting down Virtual PC version
5.0.
RESOLUTIONTo resolve this behavior, follow these steps:
- Make a copy of the Virtual PC 6.0
Preferences folder to back up its data, and then delete
the folder. Depending on your Macintosh operating system, the folder is in the
following location:
- Mac OS 9:
System Folder:Preferences:Virtual PC
6.0 Preferences - Mac OS X:
Home/Library/Preferences/Virtual PC
6.0 Preferences
- Make a copy of the Virtual PC folder to
back up its data, and then delete the folder. Depending on your
version of Virtual PC and your Macintosh operating system, the folder is in the
following location:
- Mac OS 9
- Virtual PC version 6.0:

- Restart your Macintosh computer.
- Start Virtual PC version 6.0 or 6.1.
