SYMPTOMS You cannot open your Mac Web Sharing pages from a virtual machine by using http://127.0.0.1 or http://localhost. If you type http://127.0.0.1 or http://localhost in the address bar of Microsoft Internet Explorer in the virtual machine, you receive the following error message: The page cannot be displayed Your Mac Web Sharing page on the host Mac operating system does not open. Note The Mac OS X Sharing pane in System Preferences allows you to configure a personal Web site on an intranet or on the Internet. For more information, see the "Web Sharing" topic in your Mac OS documentation. CAUSE This issue occurs because the Web browser looks for a Web page on the virtual machine instead of on the Mac host operating system when you use http://127.0.0.1 or http://localhost on the virtual machine as the name of the Web server. Localhost is the TCP/IP loopback name, and http://127.0.0.1 is the loopback IP address for the local computer (the virtual machine that you are using). WORKAROUND To work around this problem, use the IP address that is supplied by the host Mac operating system to open your Mac Web Sharing pages. To find this IP address, open the Sharing pane in System Preferences and note the IP Address that is above Used for Web Sharing, FTP, other IP-based services.
For example, type http://IP Address in the address bar of Microsoft Internet Explorer, where IP Address is the IP address that appears in the Sharing pane in System Preferences.
