Cannot Install New Programs from a Shared Folder (825347)


The information in this article applies to:

  • Connectix Virtual PC for Mac version 6.0
  • Microsoft Virtual PC for Mac version 6.1

SYMPTOMS

When you try to install a new program from a shared folder in a Virtual PC for Mac virtual machine that is running Microsoft Windows, the installation does not succeed.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs because many Microsoft Windows programs cannot be installed from a shared folder.

WORKAROUND

To work around this issue, use one of the following methods:
  • Install Windows programs from a CD or from a disk image.
  • Copy the installation files to a folder on the virtual machine by using the drag-and-drop feature of your Virtual PC, and then install the program from this folder.
