Link state traffic saturates slow links between servers (825314)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Exchange 2000 Enterprise Server
  • Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server

SYMPTOMS

After you migrate your Exchange organization from Microsoft Exchange 5.5 Server to Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server, you may notice a dramatic increase in ORG_INFO update traffic between routing group masters and remote sites. If the connection bandwidth to the remote sites is about 512 kilobytes (KB), the ORG_INFO update traffic may completely saturate the bandwidth and prevent ordinary e-mail transfer.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because of the size and the number of link state packets that are sent between the Routing Group Masters and remote servers.

RESOLUTION

Hotfix information

To resolve this problem, obtain the August 2004 Exchange 2000 Server Post-Service Pack 3 update rollup.
