Virtual PC for Windows 5.0 and later does not run on computers that use a Transmeta Crusoe microprocessor or an AMD K6 CPU (825276)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Connectix Virtual PC for Windows version 5.0
  • Connectix Virtual PC for Windows version 5.1
  • Connectix Virtual PC for Windows version 5.2

SYMPTOMS

When you try to run Virtual PC for Windows version 5.0 or later on a computer that uses a Transmeta Crusoe microprocessor or an Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) K6 CPU, you cannot do so. The Virtual PC program does not start.

CAUSE

This issue occurs because Virtual PC for Windows version 5.0 introduced a number of optimization and basic input/output system (BIOS) or virtual hardware changes to the Virtual PC program. These changes stop the Virtual PC from running on computers that use Transmeta Crusoe or AMD K6 CPUs because neither processor has Advanced Programmable Interrupt Controller (APIC) hardware.
