The information in this article applies to:
SYMPTOMS When you double-click a Microsoft Word document, Word X for
Mac does not start, and you receive a 10814 error message. This issue does not
occur if Word is already running.CAUSE This issue may occur if the Word document was created in an
earlier version of Word. RESOLUTION To resolve this problem, append a ".doc" to the end of the
file name. To do this, follow these steps:
- Quit Word if it is running.
- Rename the document, and then append a ".doc" to the end of
the file name.
For example, rename the document
"Mydocument.doc" (without the quotation
marks). - Double-click the document.
Word X starts, and then opens the document
correctly.
