SYMPTOMS
When you use the SMS Web Reporting tool from the Microsoft Systems Management Server (SMS) Software Update Services Feature
Pack to run a report that is based on a company name, you may receive the following SQL error message if the company name that you select or enter contains a comma:
There was an error in the SQL Statement.
The following error was returned:
Procedure or function usp_SMSR501 has too many arguments specified. [-2147217900]
If you believe this query is syntactically correct, please refer to the release notes topic Custom Reports and Column Picker Limitations for information that may help you resolve this error.
For example, you may receive this error message after you click the arrow next to a company name to run the
List all software companies report or after you type a company name to run the
List all products for a specific company report.
RESOLUTION
A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that this article describes. Apply it only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem.

The English version of this hotfix has the file attributes (or later) that are listed in the following table. The dates and times for these files are listed in coordinated universal time (UTC). When you view the file information, it is converted to local time. To find the difference between UTC and local time, use the
Time Zone tab in the Date and Time tool in Control Panel.

Because of file dependencies, the most recent hotfix or feature that contains these files may also contain additional files.
How to Install the Hotfix
Before you install this hotfix, you must first remove the existing installation of SMS Web Reporting. When you remove the existing installation, any existing custom reports that you have created are retained. However, as a precaution, it is recommended that you back up the current installation of SMS Web Reporting before you install this hotfix.
To install the hotfix:
- Remove the existing installation:
- On the desktop, click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
- Double-click Add/Remove Programs.
- If Web Reports Add-in for Software Updates (SMS Additional Web Reports) is installed, click SMS Additional Web Reports in the list of currently installed
programs, and then click Change/Remove to remove it. When the program is removed, click Close.
- Double-click Add/Remove Programs.
- Click SMS Web Reporting in the list of currently installed
programs, and then click Change/Remove to remove it. When the program is removed, click Close.
- Install the updated SMS Web Reporting tool:
- Run Setup for the appropriate SMSWebReporting: SMSWebReporting_

- If you previously also had Web Reports Add-in for Software Updates installed, install the updated
Web Reports Add-in for Software Updates by running Setup for the appropriate SMSAddWebReports: SMSAddWebReports_

If you currently do not want to install the Web Reports Add-in for Software Updates but
decide later to install it, make sure that you install the version that is released as part of
this hotfix (or a later version) to avoid overwriting newer common files that are shared between Web Reports Add-in for Software Updates and
SMS Web Reporting.
