"Error 2905" and "Error 1712" error messages when you install Office XP (823826)

SYMPTOMSWhen you try to install Microsoft Office XP, you may receive an error
message that is similar to the following: Error 2905,
C:\Config.msi\filename where
filename is the name of an installation
file. When you click OK to close this error message, you
may also receive an error message that is similar to the following: Error 1712: A previous install for this product is in progress.
You must undo the changes made by that install to continue. Do you want to undo
those changes? When you click Yes to continue,
your computer may stop responding. RESOLUTIONTo resolve this issue, clean boot your computer, and then
