SYMPTOMS

When you use the Reboot=1 switch in the Setup.ini file to force a restart of the computer in the middle of a set of chained installs, when the chained installs are resumed after the restart, the local cache settings that were in force before the restart are not inherited by the remaining chained packages.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, do not include the Reboot=1 switch in the Setup.ini file. You do not have to restart the computer when you chain the installations of any of the Microsoft Office 2003 products. However, if you are also chaining the installations of updates and third-party products, Microsoft recommends that you put all the Office 2003 products first in the chain without the Reboot=1 switch, and then put the other products and the Reboot switch as required.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.

MORE INFORMATION

Typically, a chained installation is run in quiet mode by using the /q switch. In quiet mode, you do not receive an error message, but you can check the log files to see where the error occurred.
