FIX: Rapidly Switching Between Multicast Groups May Result in Joining an Unwanted Group (823751)


The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Windows CE .NET 4.1

SYMPTOMS

When you use Internet Protocol (IP) Multicast, and while you try to switch between multicast groups, frames may be dropped, and other network related programs are slow to respond.

CAUSE

When you rapidly switch between multicast groups, Internet Group Management Protocol (IGMP) Join and IGMP Leave messages may interleave in such a way that the request to disconnect the previous group is ignored. The IGMP Join and Leave messages are sent to request membership for a new group and to remove membership from an old group.

When this behavior occurs, the network traffic is doubled.
