Office 2000 Correct Flipped Pictures Add-in (823734)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Office 2000, Service Release 1 (SR-1)
  • Microsoft Office XP

SUMMARY

When you open a file in Microsoft Word 2000, Microsoft PowerPoint 2000 or Microsoft Excel 2000, all your pictures appear the way that you want. However, when you open your file in an Office XP program or share your file with an Office XP user, your pictures may appear flipped or reversed.

MORE INFORMATION

A corrective add-in is available to resolve this problem. The add-in checks all documents for flipped pictures when the pictures are opened. This problem occurs because in Microsoft Office 97 or Microsoft Office 2000 without Service Release 1a installed, the pictures were resized or moved incorrectly while editing them. This is typically done by dragging the picture handles past the opposite picture boundary. This process incorrectly enables the flipped properties of the pictures and although the problem is not visible in any versions of Office 97 or Office 2000, they appear flipped when you open your files in Office XP.

The following types of pictures and objects are checked by the add-in:
  • Embedded Pictures (WMF, JPEG, TIFF, GIF, PNG, etc)
  • Linked Pictures
  • Embedded OLE Objects (such as OrgCharts, WordArt, Excel Charts, etc)
  • Linked OLE Objects (such as Excel Charts, etc)
  • Graphs (Microsoft Graph)
  • Grouped Items (containing any of the items in this list)
The following file is available for download from the Microsoft Download Center:
Release Date: 7/2/2003

This executable file installs the MSO9CF10.dll file in your \Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\Addins folder. This .dll file has a size of 56 Kilobytes (KB) and a date of June 24, 2003.

How to Use the Add-in

When a file is opened in Word 2000, PowerPoint 2000, or Excel 2000 the add-in scans all pictures for flipped properties and resets them. After this is complete, a special document property (FlipCorrection) will be added. This value will be added when you open a file in Word 2000, PowerPoint 2000 or Excel 2000 whether or not flipped pictures were found and corrected. This document property is used to help identify files that have already been checked. However, unless the FlipCorrectionSkipFlagged registry setting (see below) is enabled, the file will be scanned each time the file is opened in Word 2000, PowerPoint 2000 or Excel 2000. This is to make sure that no additional flipped pictures are added to the file and unchecked.

Note This issue may occur if you use Office 2000 pre-SR-1a or if the file is shared with an Office 97 user.

Registry Information

This corrective add-in has the following registry keys that can be set to change its behavior:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\9.0\Common\Draw\FlipCorrectionShowError

When this setting is zero (0 is default), no error messages will appear when a problem occurs while correcting a file. However, an error log file (oflip_err.txt) will be created and placed in root of drive C by default, unless it is otherwise specified by using the following registry setting:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\9.0\Common\Draw\FlipCorrectionErrorPath

By default (if this is blank) the error log file will be placed on drive C. This location can be specified as either a local drive and folder location, or a UNC (\\server\share) location.

Note Only the path should be specified. The Oflip_err.txt file is created in this location when an error occurs.

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\9.0\Common\Draw\FlipCorrectionSkipFlagged

When this setting is set to 1 (0 is default), documents that you opened with this corrective add-in loaded are not scanned again. This is particularly useful when you are working with large documents regularly.

However, it is best not to set this setting if either of the following scenarios is true:
  • You are regularly sharing documents with Office 97 users.

    - or -
  • You or anyone who you are sharing your documents with is not running Office 2000 Service Release 1a at a minimum.
