You receive an error message when you open an e-mail message that you saved with Outlook 2003 (823579)

SYMPTOMSIn Outlook 2002, when you try to open an e-mail message that you saved in Outlook 2003, you receive the following error message: The messaging interface has returned an unknown error. If the problem persists, restart Outlook. CAUSEThis issue occurs when the e-mail message that you are trying to read is encoded in Unicode format. WORKAROUNDTo work around this issue, when you save the e-mail message in Outlook 2003, use a non-Unicode format. To do this, follow these steps: - In Outlook 2003, click the e-mail message that you want to save.
- On the File menu, click Save As.
- In the Save in box, click the location where you want to save the file.
- In the File name box, type a name for the file.
- In the Save as type box, click any file type except Outlook Message Format - Unicode, and then click Save.
