MD_ETAG_CHANGENUMBER metabase property is not honored in Internet Information Services version 6.0 (823544)

RESOLUTION

After you install this hotfix, Internet Information Services version 6.0 honors the MD_ETAG_CHANGENUMBER property.

Hotfix information

A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. The ETAG value for a static file response is generated by using the last-changed time and the metabase change-number. In Internet Information Services version 5.0, the MD_ETAG_CHANGENUMBER metabase property is used instead of the metabase change-number if the MD_ETAG_CHANGENUMBER metabase property, ID 2039, is present.

When certain metabase properties are changed, Internet Information Services version 5.0 automatically updates the MD_ETAG_CHANGENUMBER metabase property. Because of architectural changes in Internet Information Services version 6.0, the MD_ETAG_CHANGENUMBER metabase property is not automatically updated.
