This article describes how to use the Microsoft Project Server 2003 Site Editor tool (EditSite.exe) to make changes to your existing Web site configuration, to delete a Web site, or to add a new Web site.

  • Edit information for a single database
  • Edit information for a partitioned database
  • Delete a Web site
  • Add a Web site

After you use the Site Editor tool to configure Project Server 2003 for multiple Web sites, you can connect to one or more Microsoft Project Web Access Web sites on the same server. This environment is ideal for administrators who want to use different Microsoft Project Web Access Web sites for different groups of users.

Get started

Download the Site Editor tool from the Microsoft Web site. After you download the tool, use the Connection Information (ConnInfo.exe) tool to gather important account information. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Download the Site Editor tool (EditSite.exe).

    To do this, visit the following Microsoft Web site:

  2. Before you use the Site Editor tool to create a new virtual directory (site) for Project Server 2003, you must determine the passwords for the MSProjectServer and for the MSProjectUser user accounts. Project Server 2003 stores information in the registry about the location of the Microsoft Project Server database, and about the accounts that are associated with Microsoft Project Server roles. You can use the Site Editor tool to make changes to these accounts, or you can use the Connection Information tool to update the information.

    To use the Connection Information tool for a single database, follow these steps:
    1. Run the Connection Information tool.

      The ConnInfo.exe file is located in the \BIN\1033 folder of your Project Server 2003 installation. To download the Connection Information tool, visit the following Microsoft Web site:

      Note If you download and install the Connection Information tool on the server from the Microsoft Web site, you can find the ConnInfo.exe file in the following folder:

      \Program Files\Microsoft Office Project Server 2003 Resource Kit\Toolbox\ConnInfo Utility

    2. Click Single database configuration.
    3. In the SQL Server text box, type the name of the instance of Microsoft SQL Server 2000 that contains the Project Server 2003 database.
    4. In the Database text box, type the name of the Project Server 2003 database.
    5. In the MSProjectServerRole Member area, type the user name and the password for the account that is a member of the MSProjectServer role in the Project Server 2003 database.
    6. In the MSProjectRole Member, type the user name and the password for the account that is a member of the MSProjectServer role in the Project Server 2003 database.
    7. Click Save, and then click Exit.
    To use the Connection Information tool for a partitioned database, follow these steps:
    1. Run the Connection Information tool. The ConnInfo.exe file is located in the \BIN\1033 folder of your Project Server 2003 installation.

    2. Click Partitioned database configuration.
    3. If you have partitioned only the View tables, click Standard 2-Way Deployment. Otherwise, click Custom Deployment.
    4. Click the database that you want to configure from the drop down list that is located above Project Tables.
    5. Click Project Tables to configure the database that contains the Microsoft Project tables and Security views.

      Click View Tables to configure the database that contains the View tables. Click Web Tables to configure the database that contains the Microsoft Project Web Access tables and Cube tables.

      Note If you click Standard 2-Way Deployment, Web Tables is not available in the list.
    6. In the SQL Server text box, type the name or the IP address of the instance of SQL Server that contains the Project Server 2003 database.
    7. In the Database text box, type the name of the Project Server 2003 database.
    8. In the MSProjectServerRole Member area, type the user name and the password for the account that is a member of the MSProjectServer role in the Project Server 2003 database.
    9. In the MSProjectRole Member area, type the user name and the password for the account that is a member of the MSProjectServer role in the Project Server 2003 database.
    10. Repeat steps d through i for each database that you want to configure.
    11. Click Save, and then click Exit.

Use the Site Editor tool to create multiple Microsoft Project Web Access Web sites for Project Server 2003

After you install the Site Editor tool, follow these steps to configure your Web site:
  1. Start Microsoft Windows Explorer, locate the Site Editor tool, and then double-click the EditSite.exe file.
  2. The EditSite.exe file is a self-extracting file that will create the following three files in the \Program Files\Microsoft Office Project Server 2003 Resource Kit\Toolbox\Edit Site Utility folder:
    • Edit Site Utility.doc
    • EULA.txt
    • Setup.msi
  3. Double-click Setup.msi to install the Site Editor tool. To complete the following steps, you must run the Site Editor tool on the computer where Project Server 2003 is installed. Additionally, you must be an administrator on the computer that is running Project Server 2003, and on the computer that is running the Microsoft Project Server Views Notification Service and Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services, if applicable.

    Note You must have Microsoft .NET Framework version 1.1 installed on the computer where you run the Site Editor tool.
  4. After the Setup program is complete, double-click the EditSite.exe file that is located in the \Program Files\Microsoft Office Project Server 2003 Resource Kit\Toolbox\EditSite folder.

Edit Web site information for a single database

To edit the Web site information for a single database configuration, follow these steps:
  1. Click the Web site that you want to edit in the Virtual Directory list.
  2. In the Site Information area, update the DSN Name value, the Query Timeout value, and the Session Manager value.
  3. In the Database Information area, click to select the Single Database Configuration check box.
  4. In the SQL Server text box, type the name of the instance of SQL Server where the Project Server 2003 database is located for this Web site.
  5. In the Database text box, type the name of the Project Server 2003 database for this Web site.
  6. In the MSProjectServer Role Member area, type the user name and the password for the account that is a member of the MSProjectServer role in the Project Server 2003 database for this Web site.
  7. In the MSProject Role Member area, type the user name and the password for the account that is a member of the MSProjectServer role in the Project Server 2003 database for this Web site.
  8. Click Save.

Edit Web site information for a partitioned database

To edit the Web site information for a partitioned database configuration, follow these steps:
  1. Click the Web site in the Virtual Directory list.
  2. In the Site Information area, update the DSN Name text box, the Query Timeout text box, and the Session Manager text box.
  3. In the Database Information area, click to select the Partitioned Database Configuration check box.
  4. If you have partitioned only the View tables, click to select the 2 Way Deployment check box. Otherwise, click the Custom option.
  5. Click the database that you want to configure.
  6. Click Project Tables to configure the database that contains the Microsoft Project tables and Security views. Click View Tables to configure the database that contains the View tables. Click Web Tables to configure the database that contains the Microsoft Project Web Access tables and the Cube tables.

    Note If you click Standard 2-Way Deployment, Web Tables is not available in the list.
  7. In the SQL Server text box, type the name of the instance of SQL Server that contains the Project Server 2003 database for this Web site.
  8. In the Database text box, type the name of the Project Server 2003 database for this Web site.
  9. In the MSProjectServer Role Member area, type the user name and the password for the account that is a member of the MSProjectServer role in the Project Server 2003 database for this Web site.
  10. Under MSProject Role Member area, type the user name and the password for the account that is a member of the MSProjectServer role in the Project Server 2003 database for this Web site.
  11. Repeat steps 5 through 10 for each database that you want to configure.
  12. Click Save.

Delete a Web site

You can use the Site Editor tool to delete a Web site. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Click the Web site in the Virtual Directory list that you want to delete.
  2. Click Delete.
The Site Editor tool deletes the virtual directory and the registry information that is associated with the Web site. However, the Site Editor tool does not delete the ODBC connection registry keys, because the ODBC connection might be used for other purposes.

Add a Web site

You can use the Site Editor tool to add a Web site. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Create a database for the new Web site. For more information about how to create a Project Server 2003 database, see Chapter 6, "Deploy the Database" in the Microsoft Office Project Server 2003 Installation Guide.

  2. Run the Site Editor tool (EditSite.exe).
  3. Click Add.
  4. Click the Site Information tab.
  5. In the Site Name text box, type the name that you want to use for the new Web site.
  6. Make sure that you use the correct information in the Project Server directory text box.
  7. After you provide the Web site name, the DSN Name text box is automatically populated with a name for the new DSN.

    To use a different DSN, type the name in the DSN Name text box.
  8. In the Session Manager text box, type the name of the computer that is running the Session Manager service.
  9. In the Web Site list, click the Web site that you want to use for the new Project Server 2003 Web site.
  10. If you are running Microsoft Windows Server 2003, click the application pool that you want the new Web site to use, in the IIS 6 Application Pool text box.
  11. To specify information for a single database configuration, follow these steps:
    1. On the Database Information tab, click Single Database Configuration.
    2. In the SQL Server text box, type the name of the instance of SQL Server where the Project Server 2003 database is located for this Web site.
    3. In the Database text box, type the name of the Project Server 2003 database for this Web site.
    4. In the MSProjectServer Role Member area, type the user name and the password for the account that is a member of the MSProjectServer role in the Project Server 2003 database for this Web site.
    5. In the MSProject Role Member area, type the user name and the password for the account that is a member of the MSProjectServer role in the Project Server 2003 database for this Web site.
    To specify information for a partitioned database configuration, follow these steps:
    1. On the Database Information tab, click Partitioned Database Configuration.
    2. If you have partitioned only the View tables, click 2 Way Deployment. Otherwise, click the Custom option.
    3. Click the database that you want to configure. Click Project Tables to configure the database that contains the Microsoft Project tables and Security views. Click View Tables to configure the database that contains the View tables. Click Web Tables to configure the database that contains the Microsoft Project Web Access tables and Cube tables.

      Note If you click 2Way Deployment, Web Tables is not available in the list.
    4. In the SQL Server text box, type the name of the instance of SQL Server that contains the Project Server 2003 database for this Web site.
    5. In the Database text box, type the name of the Project Server 2003 database for this Web site.
    6. In the MSProjectServer Role Member area, type the user name and the password for the account that is a member of the MSProjectServer role in the Project Server 2003 database for this Web site.
    7. Under MSProject Role Member area, type the user name and the password for the account that is a member of the MSProjectServer role in the Project Server 2003 database for this Web site.
    8. Repeat steps c through step g for each database that you want to configure.
  12. On the Windows SharePoint Services Information tab, click Set up Windows SharePoint Services and Project Server Integration.
  13. In the Admin URL text box, type the URL for the Windows SharePoint Services Central Administration page.
  14. In the Site URL text box, type the URL where you want to create Windows SharePoint Services Web sites for projects.
  15. In the Site Admin NT Account text box, type the name of the Windows SharePoint Services Web site administrator account.
  16. In the Admin Name text box, type the name of the Windows SharePoint Services Web site administrator account.
  17. In the Admin e-mail text box, type the e-mail address for the Windows SharePoint Services Web site administrator.
  18. If you use Windows SharePoint Services in an extranet, click Extranet.
  19. To prevent users of the new Web site from connecting to Windows SharePoint Services Web sites that belong to other Project Server 2003 Web sites, click Hosted Organization.
  20. Optionally, provide the user account, the name, and the e-mail address for a second Windows SharePoint Services configuration in the corresponding text boxes.
  21. Click Create.
  22. Restart the Project Server Views Notification Service.
Note In deployments where the Project Server Views Notification Service is installed on a different computer than the Front-end service, you must restart the Views Notification service on the computer that runs the Project Server Views Notification service, and the computer that runs the Front-End service. To restart the Project Server Views Notification Service, follow these steps:
  1. Click Start, and then click Administrative Tools.
  2. Double-click Services.
  3. In the Name column, right-click Project Server Views Notification Service, and then click Restart.

Synchronize the Windows SharePoint Services Web administrator accounts

After you complete the steps in this article, you must synchronize the Windows SharePoint Services Web administrator accounts. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Log on to Microsoft Project Web Access for the new Web site.

    Note By default, the administrator password is blank when the Site Editor tool creates a new Web site.
  2. Click the Admin tab.
  3. In the left pane, click Manage Windows SharePoint Services.
  4. In the left pane, click Synchronize administrator groups.
  5. Click Synchronize Web Administrators.
