  • Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server

SYMPTOMS

When you try to send an e-mail message, you receive a non-delivery report (NDR) after an extended period of time (for example, two days later). The NDR contains information that is similar to the following information: Your message did not reach some or all of the intended recipients.
Subject: Subject
Sent: Date and Time
The following recipient(s) could not be reached:
User_Name on Date and Time
The e-mail system was unable to deliver the message, but did not report a specific reason. Check the address and try again. If it still fails, contact your system administrator.
<Fully qualified domain name of the NDR originator>

When you view the application log in Windows Event Viewer on your Exchange 2000 computer, you see the following event logged every five minutes:Event Type: Warning
Event Source: MSExchangeTransport
Event Category: Exchange Store Driver
Event ID: 327
Computer: MailServer1
Description:
The following call : EcGetMime to the store failed. Error code : -2147024809. MDB : 87354ede-8a7b-4a27-8778-2e7b84422acd. FID : 1-123. MID : 1-1918B1D. File : .

CAUSE

This problem may occur if a mail message is stuck in the local delivery queue. A mail message may become stuck in the local delivery queue if the message content is corrupted during the content conversion from MAPI to MIME. MIME conversion fails if there is some data in the message that the IMAIL component cannot map to MIME.
