SQL Server 8.0:469697

SUMMARY

This article describes the upgrade scenarios that are not supported by Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Desktop Engine (Windows).

MORE INFORMATION

Although you can upgrade SQL Server Desktop Engine (Windows) to SQL Server 2000 Standard Edition or to SQL Server 2000 Enterprise Edition, the following upgrade scenarios are not supported by SQL Server Desktop Engine (Windows):
  • You cannot upgrade SQL Server Desktop Engine (Windows) to SQL Server 2000 Personal Edition, SQL Server 2000 Developer Edition, or SQL Server 2000 Enterprise Evaluation Edition.
  • You cannot upgrade SQL Server Desktop Engine (Windows) to SQL Server 2000 Desktop Engine (also known as MSDE 2000).
  • You cannot upgrade SQL Server Desktop Engine, SQL Server Desktop Engine Service Pack 1 (SP1), SQL Server Desktop Engine SP2, SQL Server Desktop Engine SP3, or SQL Server Desktop Engine SP3a to SQL Server Desktop Engine (Windows).
  • You cannot upgrade any other third-party data engines to SQL Server Desktop Engine (Windows).
When you try to perform the upgrade scenarios that are not supported, the upgrades may fail, and the instance of SQL Server Desktop Engine (Windows) may be left in an indeterminate state.

Note Because SQL Server Desktop Engine (Windows) is not publicly available, public users cannot upgrade SQL Server Desktop Engine (Windows) in the upgrade scenarios that are not supported.
