"An Error Has Occurred in the Script on This Page" Error Message Appears When You Click a Movie in Microsoft Greetings Help (823451)

SYMPTOMS

When you install Microsoft Greetings 2002 on a computer that is running Windows 2000 Service Pack 4 (SP4), and you click Helpful Movies on the Help menu in Microsoft Greetings, and then you click the movie title that you want to play in the right pane, you may receive the following script error message in Microsoft Internet Explorer:
An error has occurred in the script on this page.

As a result, you cannot play the movie.

CAUSE

This issue may occur if you install and use the version of Internet Explorer that is included on the Microsoft Greetings 2002 CD-ROM on a computer that is running Windows 2000 SP4. This issue occurs if Internet Explorer uses an Active X control that is incompatible with Windows 2000 SP4. Internet Explorer 5.5 is included on the Microsoft Greetings 2002 CD-ROM.

WORKAROUND

To work around this issue, do one of the following, as appropriate to your situation:
  • Upgrade to Internet Explorer 6.0 Service Pack 1 (SP1) or later. For more information about how to obtain the latest version of Internet Explorer, visit the following Microsoft Web site:
  • Delete the following registry key:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\ActiveX Compatibility\{ADB880A6-D8FF-11CF-9377-00AA003B7A11}

    To do so:WARNING: If you use Registry Editor incorrectly, you may cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that you can solve problems that result from using Registry Editor incorrectly. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.
    1. Click Start, and then click Run.
    2. In the Open box, type regedit, and then click OK.
    3. Locate, and then click the following registry key:

      HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\ActiveX Compatibility\{ADB880A6-D8FF-11CF-9377-00AA003B7A11}

    4. On the Edit menu, click Delete.
    5. When you are prompted to confirm the deletion, click Yes.
    6. Quit Registry Editor.
