You receive a "The server administration programs and the server extensions on the Web server are not compatible" error message when you back up a SharePoint Team Services site (823376)

SYMPTOMSWhen you use the Microsoft SharePoint Migration Tool
(Smigrate.exe) to back up a SharePoint Team Services site in preparation to
migrate it to a Windows SharePoint Services site, you may receive an error
message that is similar to the following: The server
administration programs and the server extensions on the Web server are not
compatible. The server is too old to use with this administration program.
Please consult the section in the Administration Guide on Migrating and
Updating Web Sites for more information CAUSEThis issue occurs if the Ows1002.exe update for SharePoint
Team Services is not installed on the SharePoint Team Services
server.RESOLUTIONTo resolve this issue, install the Ows1002.exe update on the
SharePoint Team Services server before you migrate your site to Windows
SharePoint Services. To do this, follow these steps:
- Install Microsoft Office XP Service Pack 1 (SP-1) and
Microsoft Office XP Service Pack 2 (SP-2) (if they are not already installed on
the server). To do so, visit the following Microsoft Office Product Updates Web
site:Note Office XP SP-1 and Office XP SP-2 must be installed on the server
before you install the Owa1002.exe update in step 2.
- Download the following SharePoint Team Services update,
install it on the SharePoint Team Services server, and then use the
Smigrate.exe tool to migrate the SharePoint Team Services site to a Windows
SharePoint Services site.
