MSBBN: "There Was an Error Programming the Base Station" Error Message When You Try to Configure Your Base Station (823369)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Broadband Networking 10 100 Ethernet Wired Base Station MN100
- Microsoft Broadband Networking Wireless Base Station MN500
SYMPTOMSWhen you try to configure your Broadband Networking Wireless
Base Station MN-500 or Broadband Networking 10 100 Ethernet Wired Base Station
MN-100, you receive an error message that is similar to the following: There was an error programming the base station. There may be a
software firewall running or you may need to factory reset the base
station. This issue occurs although there is no firewall installed.
When you reset the base station, you continue to receive this error
message. CAUSEThis issue may occur if a third-party program interferes
with the configuration of the base station.RESOLUTIONTo resolve this issue, follow these steps:
- Connect your modem to your computer (bypass the base
station).
- Reset the base station to the factory default
settings.
- Restart your computer.
- Verify that your Internet connection is working.
- Make sure that any nonessential programs are not running.

section of this article. - Reconnect your base station to your modem, and then rerun
the setup program.
- Restart your computer as you typically do.
If you
use the clean boot method that is described in the "More information" section
of this article, you may have to repeat the procedure and undo the changes that
you made. - If your network or Internet connection is not functioning
after you perform this procedure, you may have to turn the power for the modem
and the base station off for 20 seconds, and then turn the power back on
again.
