MSBBN: Cannot install an MN-120 Network Adapter (823218)

SYMPTOMS

When you try to install the Microsoft Broadband Networking 10 100 Ethernet Notebook Adapter MN-120, you may experience one or more of the following behaviors:
  • The Microsoft Broadband Networking Setup program does not detect your adapter.
  • The network adapter does not physically fit in the PC Card Slot.
  • The card does not work.

CAUSE

This issue may occur when you try to insert the notebook adapter in a PC Card (PCMCIA) Slot on an older model Notebook/Laptop computer that does not meet current standards for PC Cards (PCMCIA). The MN-120 is only compatible with Type II PC Card Slots.

The MN-120 cannot be inserted in an incompatible card slot unless it is forced. Inserting the card in this way may damage the card, the computer, or both.
