Money: Installer Terminated Prematurely (823212)

SYMPTOMSWhen you try to install Microsoft Money 2003, you receive
the following error message: Installer terminated
prematurely. After you click OK, you receive the
following error message: The I/O operation has been
aborted because of either a thread exit or application request
. CAUSEThis problem occurs if the Microsoft Windows Installer is
damaged.
The Windows Installer manages the installation of software,
manages the additions and deletions of software components, monitors file
resiliency, and maintains basic disaster recovery by using rollbacks.
Additionally, Windows Installer supports installing and running software from
multiple sources and can be customized by developers who want to install custom
programs.RESOLUTIONTo resolve this problem, use the following method. Reinstall Windows Installer To reinstall the Windows Installer, you must rename the damaged
installer files, and then reinstall Windows Installer. To do this, follow these
steps. NOTE : Because there are several versions of Microsoft Windows, the
following steps may be different on your computer. If they are, see your
product documentation to complete these steps. - Click Start, point to All
Programs, point to Accessories, and then click
Command Prompt.
Microsoft Windows opens a command
prompt window. - At the command prompt, type the following command, and
then press ENTER (where drive :\
Windows are the drive and folder where Windows is
installed):
attrib -r -s -h drive
:\ Windows
\System32 - At the command prompt, type the following command, and then
press ENTER:
CD drive
:\ Windows
\System32 - At the command prompt, type the following lines, and then
press ENTER after you type each line:
ren msi.dll msi.old ren msiexec.exe msiexec.old ren msihnd.dll msihnd.old
- At the command prompt, type exit,
and then press ENTER.
- Restart your computer.
- Update the Windows Installer files to the latest version.
To do so, visit one of the following Microsoft Web sites, and then download and
install Windows Installer 2.0.
Note Windows Installer 2.0 is included with Microsoft Windows XP. You
do not have to perform this step if you are using Windows XP.
