A different set of custom view settings is applied to Calendars when you view multiple Calendars side by side in Outlook 2003 (823130)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Office Outlook 2003

SYMPTOMS

When you use the Outlook 2003 Calendar feature to view multiple Calendars side by side at the same time in Outlook 2003, you may find that the custom view settings that are applied to the calendars in the view may be different after you switch to a different Outlook 2003 folder and then return to the Calendar folder. This behavior occurs even though each calendar that is in the view is configured with a different set of custom view settings,

For example, you have two calendars that are named Calendar1 and Calendar2. The custom view settings that are applied to both calendars are the settings that are configured for Calendar1. When you open and view the two calendars, you may find that the custom view settings that are applied to both calendars are the settings that are applied to Calendar2. This behavior occurs after you switch to another folder in the Navigation Pane, and you click Calendar to return to the Calendar.

CAUSE

You can configure custom view settings for individual calendars. However, when you view multiple calendars side by side, the same custom view settings apply to all the shared calendars and to all the calendars that are listed under My Calendar that are open in the view. When you view multiple calendars at the same time, and each calendar is configured with a different set of custom view settings, Outlook 2003 applies the same set of custom view settings to all calendars that are open in the view. The custom view settings that are applied when you view multiple calendars side by side are determined by the order of the calendars in the aggregate view.

For a shared calendar, the custom view settings that you configure override the custom settings that are set by the owner of the shared calendar.

WORKAROUND

You can reorder the calendars in the aggregate view to make sure that the custom view settings that you want are applied when you view multiple calendars at the same time in Outlook 2003. To do so, follow these steps:
  1. Click Calendar.
  2. Under My Calendars, right-click the calendar that you want to open, and then click Open.

The calendar opens, and the check box that is next to the calendar is selected. Any other calendars that are currently open are closed. The custom view settings that you configured for the calendar that is currently open apply to the open calendar and also apply to any additional calendars that you open.
You must reapply this workaround to reorder the calendars in the aggregate view if you switch to another area on the Navigation Pane and then return to the Calendar.
