You Receive a "Some Recipients Were Discarded" Error Message When You Try to Use the Windows XP Fax Service (822711)

SYMPTOMS

When you try to use the Microsoft Windows XP Fax Service to send a fax to a contact in the Windows Address Book, you may receive the following error:
Some recipients were discarded because their addresses don't appear to be fax numbers.
(IDS_BAD_ADDRESS_TYPE)

CAUSE

This problem occurs when you try to send a fax to a contact and to a group containing the contact at the same time.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Microsoft Windows XP. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, remove the duplicate contact.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section. This problem was first corrected in Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2.
