ISA Server Web Proxy service stops responding when the CacheConnectSize registry value is set to 0 (821935)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Internet Security and Acceleration Server 2000 SP1

SYMPTOMS

When you Web publish servers through Internet Security and Acceleration (ISA) Server, the Microsoft Web Proxy service (W3proxy.exe) may stop responding, and you may either receive a stack dump of the error or a Dr. Watson error message, depending on the disaster recovery options set on the server. In either case, ISA Server no longer services Web Proxy-based traffic, and you must restart the Microsoft Web Proxy service.

CAUSE

This problem may occur if the following registry value is set to 0:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\W3Proxy\Parameters

The Web Proxy service uses the ConnectCacheSize registry value to determine how many sessions to maintain to the same remote server in support of clients that use the HTTP 1.1 "Proxy-Connection: Keep-Alive" and HTTP 1.1 "Keep-Alive" request headers.
