The AutoComplete feature displays an incorrect e-mail alias for a distribution list in Outlook 2003 (821680)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Office Outlook 2003

SYMPTOMS

If you type the name of a distribution list in the To, Cc, or Bcc box of an e-mail message in Outlook 2003, the AutoComplete feature displays the correct display name for the distribution list, but the alias for the distribution list is incorrect.

CAUSE

This problem occurs if the following conditions are true:
  • You renamed an existing distribution list in Microsoft Active Directory.
  • You typed the name of the renamed distribution list in the To, Cc, or Bcc box of the e-mail message.
In this situation, the AutoComplete feature in Outlook 2003 displays the previous alias of the distribution list instead of the new alias of the distribution list.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, click the distribution list name that is suggested by the AutoComplete feature. When you do so, your e-mail message is delivered successfully to the members of the distribution list, even though the AutoComplete feature displays the incorrect alias of the distribution list in the To, Cc, or Bcc box.
