The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Office SharePoint Portal Server 2003

SYMPTOMS

When you restore your server running Microsoft Office Share Point Portal Server 2003 from backup, you may receive the following message:The portal site being restored does not use shared services, but the server farm is configured for shared services. If you restore the portal site on this server farm, the portal site will use shared services. The original search configuration and results, alerts, user profiles, and personal sites from this portal site will be replaced by those shared services

CAUSE

This problem may occur if your Office Share Point Portal Server was a non-Shared Services portal site when the back-up was created, and it is now part of a Shared Services site.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, restore the non-Shared Services backup to a separate computer, create the site on the new computer, and then create a new backup of the Shared Services site. Use the new backup of the Shared Services site to restore the Shared Services SharePoint Portal Server.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

MORE INFORMATION
