You receive an error message and Microsoft Search restarts slowly after you stop the service on a SharePoint Portal Server 2003 (821518)

SYMPTOMSWhen you restart the Microsoft Search service (Mssearch.exe) on a computer running SharePoint Portal Server, it may take a long time for the Microsoft Search service to restart (10 minutes or more). For example, when you restart the Microsoft Search service, and then perform a search of the SharePoint Portal Server site, no results are returned. Additionally, you receive the following error message in your Web browser window: No results are available due to a network failure. Please contact the portal's administrator. CAUSEThis issue may occur when you stop the Mssearch.exe process by using the taskkill command, and then restart the Microsoft Search service.WORKAROUNDTo work around this issue, shut down the computer running SharePoint Portal Server, and then restart the computer.STATUS Microsoft
