A multifunction PCMCIA card may cause an error on a blue screen during standby (821285)

SYMPTOMS

When you suspend a Microsoft Windows 2000-based computer, you may receive an error message on a blue screen.

The error code may be similar to the following:

0x0000009F
		  (DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE)

Additionally, the computer may also restart.

This problem occurs if a multifunction PCMCIA or Compact Flash card is installed where one function is an IDE/ATAPI device.

Note IDE/ATAPI is Integrated Drive Electronics/Advanced Technology Attachment Packet Interface.

CAUSE

The bus enumerator for multifunction devices (Mf.sys) always sets the DO_POWER_PAGABLE flag for the child physical device objects (PDOs) of the bus enumerator.

When you use an IDE/ATAPI device, Atapi.sys never sets the DO_POWER_PAGABLE flag for the corresponding functional device object (FDO) of the IDE/ATAPI device. You cannot attach a non-power-pageable device object to a power-pageable device object. The Windows 2000 kernel determines whether this condition exists when the computer is suspending and uses the DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE bugcheck code to check for errors.
