The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Windows 2000 Advanced Server
- Microsoft Windows 2000 Datacenter Server
- Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional
- Microsoft Windows 2000 Server
SYMPTOMSThe Microsoft Windows 2000-based server node in a cluster that hosts the Exchange Message Transfer Agent (MTA) service may regularly log Event 1069 in the event log. This error indicates that the MTA service has experienced a timeout. However, the MTA may have been fully functional during that time.
CAUSEThis problem occurs when an antivirus program blocks the MTA service. This causes a timeout to occur and blocks ScSendControl messages that are sent from the Service Control Manager (SCM). It may appear that the SCM is not functioning correctly, when in fact the antivirus program is causing the problem.WORKAROUNDCurrently, the only workaround for this problem is to remove the antivirus program from the Windows 2000-based server.STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section of this article.
