SUMMARY

This article discusses support for the Windows XP Tablet PC Edition operating system ink collection and managed objects in an Internet Explorer-hosted Windows Form (WinForm) or in an ActiveX control.

MORE INFORMATION

You may sometimes want to integrate inking functionality in Web pages to combine the benefits of ink and pen functionality with the low maintenance administration of a Web application. However, because of technical limitations in the Tablet PC core inking services, you cannot (as you might expect) use ink collection and managed objects in an Internet Explorer-hosted Windows Form or in an ActiveX control. The compatibility problems cause this scenario to not work as expected.

Microsoft is investigating these issues and understands the importance of fixing the technical limitations. Because a solution requires changing many core services, the timing and availability of such a fix is not known at the time of publication. Until these technical limitations are resolved, Microsoft does not support hosting ink-enabled WinForms and ActiveX Controls in Internet Explorer Web applications.
