Deleted User Roles Are Not Removed by Background Processing (820996)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Content Management Server 2002

SYMPTOMS

If you delete roles from containers in Microsoft Content Management Server (MCMS), you may experience performance degradation in the live site operation.

CAUSE

MCMS uses roles to enforce security access to containers, including channels and postings. A browsing user has memberships in various roles. This problem occurs when you delete a role that is assigned to many different containers. After these roles have been deleted, they are not removed from the database. Because the roles remain in the database, they are still gathered when container permissions are determined. These deleted containers are not used by the server during typical operation, and they are discarded. However, performance may be degraded during the gathering process.

RESOLUTION

Background processing now removes deleted roles from the database.
