WMI Numeric Event Provider Reports Incorrect Values in Microsoft Operations Manager 2000 (820600)

SYMPTOMS

When you use the Microsoft Operations Manager (MOM) 2000 WMI numeric events provider to return WMI instance values through MOM to sample or threshold, the values may be returned incorrectly to MOM 2000. This problem occurs if the property of the WMI class that is being accessed is of type CIM_UINT64 and if the value exceeds 10 decimal digits.

RESOLUTION

A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Only apply it to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix may receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next MOM 2000 service pack that contains this hotfix.

To Install the Hotfix

Install this hotfix on all Database Access Server, Consolidator, and Agent Manager (DCAM) computers, and on any computer that hosts a manually installed agent. Applying the hotfix on a DCAM computer initiates an agent update cycle. If agent installation approval is configured, you must approve all pending agent installations in the Pending Installation node after the next agent manager computer scan. To install the hotfix:
  1. Copy the hotfix program file (Q820600.exe) to a local folder on your computer, or to a shared network location.
  2. Run Q820600.exe on each DCAM computer, and on any manually installed agent computer. Follow the instructions in the installation wizard
