Fonts in WordArt objects change without warning when you open or print a publication in Publisher 2003 (820586)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Office Publisher 2003
  • Microsoft Office Publisher 2003 with Digital Image Pro

SYMPTOMS

When you open or print a Publisher 2003 publication, text in WordArt objects may appear to use a different font or print in a different font than the font that appears on your customer-provided laser proof. This problem can occur even if you do not receive a missing font warning when you open the publication.

CAUSE

This problem may occur if the WordArt objects were created by using a font that is not available on your computer.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, follow these steps:
  1. Close the publication without saving it.
  2. Contact your customer to find out what font he or she used when creating the WordArt object.

Your customer can double-click the WordArt object to find out what font was used, if he or she does not remember.
  3. Load the missing font on your computer.
  4. Reopen the publication.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

MORE INFORMATION

WordArt is part of the graphics and drawing engine used by Publisher 2003. You can use WordArt to create type with special effects. Publisher 2003 treats WordArt objects as graphics and does not check to see what fonts they are using.

This problem occurs even if the font is embedded in the publication. WordArt can only use a font if that font is installed on the system.
