Programs are listed as Not Available during a Typical setup of Office 2003 (820530)

SYMPTOMS

When you try to install Microsoft Office 2003 as a Typical setup, the programs to be installed may be listed as Not Available in the Install the following applications list in Setup.

Note All Office 2003 programs may be listed as Not Available, except Microsoft Publisher. Publisher may be listed as Run from my computer.

CAUSE

This problem may occur if both of the following conditions are true:
  • You install Microsoft Office 2003 Beta 2 over an existing installation of Microsoft Office XP.
  • You upgrade to the released version of Microsoft Office 2003 over your installation of Microsoft Office 2003 Beta 2 using the Typical setup option.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, follow these steps:
  1. Click Back.
  2. For the type of installation, click Complete and then click Next.
  3. Click Back.
  4. For the type of installation, click Typical, and then click Next.
All programs are now be listed as Run from my computer.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
